10 WAYS TO GET YOUR DREAM JOB

A speaker once said 'dreaming is free'! Come to think of it, he was actually correct. It doesn't cost you anything to dream, all you just need to do is to dream it and make it real. You can have a sweet dream, that you are the richest man or woman in the world, you are in your own house, driving your own car and many more sweet dreams like that, while you are still sleeping and you are seeing those good things and it’s as if you shouldn't wake up again, and then suddenly you woke up and found out that it was all a dream.

What do you do in that kind of situation when you found out that all you had imagined in your mind were just mere imaginations and all you saw in your dream were just dream? Well, you can turn your imaginations and dreams to become reality everything lies within you.

All I have said so far, let’s relate it to getting hold of your dream Job, there is no such thing as the perfect job! You are the only one that can make your dream job available to you. Now let's see some of the things you need to do to get your dream Job.

1. Knowing Yourself: The first thing you need to do is to know yourself. It’s very much easy for us to say 'I know this person very well, I know that person ' but our self we don't really know who we are. You need to know and understand yourself, in order for you to know what you want out of a job, what kind of job you would like to do, what interest you the most. Success is not defined by the amount of money you have but by the joy you derive in doing what you do. You should ask yourself some certain questions by way self-evaluation/ assessment. What are the things I am interested in doing? or what do I enjoy doing the most. I believe by the time you finish asking yourself that question, you should have gotten an idea of what you want to do.

2. Have a Role Model: After carrying out the self-assessment on yourself, you would have come up with something of your interest. Next you need to have a role model. A role model is someone whose behavior and attribute you admire and would like to emulate. You can get more on that from 'Difference between a role model and a mentor'. Having a role model helps to sharpen your interest and motivates you to work harder so that you can be like them or better than them someday.

3. Be consistent at what you do: Consistency is very important factor you need to consider. You can't say you love doing a particular thing and you are not consistent with it. If you must perfect your skill and improve on that area of your interest, you have got to do it always. If you are not consistent, it shows unseriousness.

4. Have a Plan: ' failure to plan is planning to fail'. If you don't have a plan of what you want to do, what you want to achieve, how you intend to achieve it, and when you intend to achieve it. Then you are ready for failure. Everything you do should be planned. As you wake up in the morning, you should have planned what you want to do for that day. If you are targeting a Job, you should have a good plan.

5. Be ready to sell Yourself: How do you sell yourself? Since you already have your plan intact, what you need to do is to move around to some companies whom you know would be ready to buy your idea, meet family and friends who you know would be ready to assist you. Gone are the days when you carry CV about. This is not the era of CV. Instead, you should have grown to the extent to of showing off with your business proposal outlining all that you want to do. The product you want to sell or the service you want to render.

6. Be Ready to Take Risk: So many people are scared of taking risk. They are always looking for the easy way out. Unfortunately, there is no short cut to success. The shortest cut always turns out to be the longest cut. Have a business mindset and be ready to take reasonable risk. Failure to take risk, sometimes have a way of hindering your progress. Give it all it takes in order to get your desired result.

7. Put your plans to Work: It’s not enough for you to have a plan. What is important is what happens after planning? You need to work out your plans in order for you to see the result. "Action, they say speaks louder than voice;" your plans should give birth to a positive action and result.

8. Don't be hindered by a lack of experience: These days, when you apply for a job, most of the companies will tell you, they need 5years or 10 years experience and you just graduated. How on earth do they expect a fresh graduate to get employed with little or no experience at all? Those companies are indirectly telling you, that they don't need your service. But not to worry there is another way out. The first seven steps I mentioned on how to get your dream job are for those people that have the mindset of starting up on their own. But if you have applied before and you feel discouraged because of a lack of experience. I have good news for you, because when one way closes, another one will open. Here is what you can do when faced with that kind of situation; you can apply to them as a volunteer, to the company of your interest given your course of study. Mind you as a volunteer, the company will not pay you. so you will be working for them for free, in order to gain experience. And if you are lucky after offering volunteer service for them for some time, they might decide to employ you full time.

9. Apply for the Job: Sometimes we tend to be discouraged because we have applied on several occasions and it seems it’s not yielding any positive result. But don't give up, very soon you will receive that call you have being expecting. You will be hired. But my advice to you is that, while you are still waiting for that white collar job/ office job. Don't fail to do something with your hand. Start something unique to do that will fetch you something, no matter how small it is, start something. Do not despise the days of thou little beginning. There is joy in starting small and becoming big later.

10. Stay up to date: You should always be current with what is happening around you, especially in the labour market. You never know if the next job opening/ vacancy is for you.
